Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given layout illustrates about the floor plan of a public library 20 years ago and how it looks now .
Overall, the entrance has been the same but the rooms and desk of the library is rearranged with providing some more facilities to reader. And new place for reference books is provided.
As we see the central library 20 years ago we can see the upper half of the library is placed for CD's, videos and computer games . Also there is a space for childrens books. The central part is filled with adult fiction books and adult non fictional books with a facility of tables and chairs. The lower half of the library is arranged for a reading room for reading newspapers and magazines with an enquiry desk for tickets and book return.
However in recent time it took a lot of development and rearrangement to get a new structure where upper half is replaced with childrens fiction books for story telling events with a facility of sofa. Also a lecture room is arranged. While the central part is given to reference books and adult fiction books with an information desk providing a self service facility. And a lower half is placed for computer room and a cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main changes between the two floor plans. You successfully highlight the transformation of the upper, central, and lower sections. However, the overview is somewhat limited; while it mentions that the library was rearranged, it could be more specific about the nature of these changes (e.g., the shift from a focus on media to a focus on digital and social spaces). The description of the 'current' layout is clear, but the comparison could be more analytical rather than just listing the changes. Overall, the response is relevant and provides a clear summary of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs describing the two time periods. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Also' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that comparisons are more integrated rather than just describing one state and then the other. The overall progression of information is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'rearranged', 'facilities', 'reference books', and 'self-service'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'illustrates about' (should be 'illustrates'), 'in recent time' (should be 'recently' or 'currently'), and 'placed for' (should be 'allocated to' or 'designated for'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to spatial changes would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the rooms and desk... is rearranged') and article usage ('the upper half of the library is placed for CD's'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the natural flow of the text. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors indicates that you have not yet achieved the level of control required for a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and prepositional accuracy will help.
