Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the floor plans well. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the expansion of the children's area and the introduction of new facilities like the café and lecture room. However, the description of the 'before' state is slightly cluttered, and some comparisons could be more precise. For instance, stating that the enquiry desk was at the 'bottom left' is accurate, but the overall summary would benefit from a more structured comparison between the two time periods rather than listing features sequentially. You have addressed all parts of the prompt, but the clarity of the comparison could be enhanced to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, a description of the past, and a description of the present. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping the changes more thematically rather than just listing them. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the past and present descriptions could be smoother to ensure a more cohesive narrative throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'repositioning', and 'facilities'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'serve for different purposes' (should be 'serve different purposes') and 'replaced ith' (a typo). While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and there is occasional repetition of phrases like 'floor plan' and 'room'. To improve, try to vary your descriptive verbs and nouns to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Before the development of the library floor plan. There are a total of 3 rooms' (fragmented sentence) and 'the adult fiction books space is taken by all reference books' (awkward passive construction). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will help improve your accuracy.
