Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key changes between the two floor plans. You successfully identified the main transformations, such as the conversion of the enquiry desk into a cafe and the reading room into a computer room. However, the overview is slightly limited; while you mention a 'dramatic change', you could improve by specifically highlighting the shift from a space focused on physical media to one emphasizing digital access and social learning areas. The description of the layout is generally accurate, though ensure you clearly distinguish between the two time periods to avoid ambiguity. Overall, the task is addressed well with sufficient detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group changes by location or function. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different areas of the library. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The room containing...' and 'The space which contained...', which help guide the reader. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother. Currently, some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'reorganized', 'converted', 'remodeled', and 'self-service machines' appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'The two provided diagram' (should be plural 'diagrams') and 'space which contained' (which is slightly repetitive). To improve, aim to use more precise descriptive language to describe the spatial changes. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, subject-verb agreement issues are present: 'The two provided diagram illustrates' (should be 'diagrams illustrate') and 'The room... have been converted' (should be 'has been converted'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
