Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview and identifies the main changes, such as the addition of self-service machines and the conversion of the enquiry desk into a cafe. However, the description of the spatial changes is somewhat confusing and lacks precision. For instance, the phrase 'starting from center so there had an disappearance' is awkward and makes it difficult to follow the layout changes. While the main features are covered, the report would benefit from a more structured approach to comparing the two time periods, ensuring that the reader can clearly visualize the transformation of specific zones without ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'moving further towards upcoming changes' which is an inappropriate transition for describing past events. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which specific area of the library is being discussed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow and logical progression of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'an disappearance' and 'stock of their fictional books,' which sound unnatural. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors rather than more precise terms related to floor plans or architectural changes. To improve, you should focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that your word choices are accurate and contextually appropriate for describing a diagram.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('in center', 'in east'), incorrect verb tenses ('had an disappearance'), and punctuation errors, such as the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences and improper spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
