Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of objectively describing the changes in the floor plan, the text focuses on subjective opinions and general commentary about libraries (e.g., 'People search for libraries that have enough space'). You have not provided a clear summary of the main features or specific comparisons between the two layouts. For instance, you mention 'adding lectures' and 'self-service machines' without referencing the actual visual data provided in the diagram. To improve, you must strictly describe the physical changes, such as the relocation of the children's area or the addition of the computer room, rather than discussing the benefits of libraries.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is not logical for a report. The text lacks a clear overview and fails to use cohesive devices effectively to link the description of the two time periods. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt or missing, and the focus shifts between general library philosophy and the specific task in a way that confuses the reader. To improve, use clear linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Subsequently') to guide the reader through the changes observed in the floor plan.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'demonstrate' instead of 'demonstrates' and 'there favorite book' instead of 'their favorite books'. The use of 'congested' and 'innovations' is somewhat misplaced in the context of describing a floor plan. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use precise terminology related to spatial descriptions or architectural changes. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and ensuring correct word forms will help improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The diagram... demonstrate'), misuse of homophones (e.g., 'there' instead of 'their'), and punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that you use the correct possessive pronouns. Proofreading for basic punctuation and spelling errors is also essential.
