Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully identifies the main features of the library floor plan changes. You have provided a clear overview and highlighted key transformations on both the western and eastern sides. The report is well-structured, covering the transition from the old layout to the current one effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are precise; for instance, when mentioning the 'Adult non-fiction books room' being replaced, you could more clearly contrast the specific new functions that occupied that exact footprint. Overall, the information is accurate and the key features are well-selected.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs focusing on specific areas (western and eastern sides), and a concluding summary of the central additions. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'Regarding' are used appropriately to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different sections of the library. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. The referencing is clear, and the progression of ideas from the overview to specific details is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'undergone considerable development', 'substantial changes', and 'converted into'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'western site' (should be 'side') and 'every rooms' (should be 'every room'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision of less common lexical items that would elevate the score to an 8.0. Focusing on more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve this score in future tasks.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'there have been significant changes to the every rooms' (article and pluralization error) and 'on the opposite of it' (should be 'opposite it'). Additionally, 'there're' is an informal contraction that should be avoided in academic writing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will be beneficial.
