Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes, identifying key transformations such as the addition of a cafe and the relocation of various sections. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview of the most significant changes, such as the shift toward digital and social spaces. The description of locations is sometimes confusing, particularly when comparing the two time periods, as the spatial references are not always precise. To reach a higher band, you should group information more logically by theme (e.g., study areas vs. social areas) rather than just listing changes by location, which would provide a more coherent summary of the library's evolution.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'On the left side', 'In the center', 'Finally'). The transition between the two time periods is occasionally abrupt, making the comparison feel like a list of facts rather than a cohesive report. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when you mention 'these area' without explicitly linking them back to the previous sentence's subjects. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the library features, such as 'digitalized', 'transformed', and 'self-service machines'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'floor planning' instead of 'floor plan' and 'sofa's' (incorrect pluralization). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing spatial changes and ensure that your word forms are accurate, particularly regarding plurals and possessives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('these area have been transformed') and tense inconsistencies ('below that is the reading room' when describing the past). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and apostrophes. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent tense usage when describing past versus present states will greatly improve your accuracy.
