Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While the student identifies some key changes, such as the addition of a cafeteria and the replacement of the computer room, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant transformations. Furthermore, the inclusion of personal opinion ('according to my belief') is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which should remain objective. The description of the floor plan is somewhat fragmented and lacks the analytical depth required to compare the two time periods effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, appearing as a single block of text. This makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as the repetitive use of 'are being placed'. There is a lack of logical flow between the description of the furniture and the functional areas of the library. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the concluding sentence is incomplete, which further disrupts the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'are being placed' are used multiple times, indicating a limited range of expression. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'take many advantage from' instead of 'take advantage of' and 'there meal' instead of 'their meal'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the layout or the changes, relying on simple, descriptive language that does not demonstrate the flexibility expected for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'new changing in the library is very helpfull', and incorrect use of articles and prepositions. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting more complex constructions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. The incomplete final sentence is a significant grammatical failure that leaves the thought unfinished.
