Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively covers all key changes between the two floor plans. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the conversion of the reading room into a computer room and the relocation of the table and chairs. The overview provides a clear summary of the general trends, which is essential for a high band score. The information is accurate and well-selected, ensuring the reader gets a comprehensive picture of the library's transformation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are explicitly linked to the specific locations mentioned in the prompt to avoid any ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information by area. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Meanwhile', and 'In addition' helps guide the reader through the changes smoothly. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different sections of the library. While the flow is generally good, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, such as 'undergone significant changes', 'relocated', 'transformed', and 'accommodate'. These words are appropriate for an academic report. There are a few minor errors, such as missing articles (e.g., 'converted into computer room' should be 'a computer room') and a spelling error ('accomodate' should be 'accommodate'). While these do not impede communication, addressing these small inaccuracies and incorporating more precise collocations would elevate your score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have used passive voice effectively to describe the changes, which is appropriate for this task type. However, there are some recurring grammatical slips, particularly with article usage (e.g., 'the layout of public library' should be 'the layout of the public library') and pluralization (e.g., 'children books section' should be 'children's book section'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the grammatical control is generally strong enough to support the communication of the information.
