The diagram below shows the floor plan of a public library 20 years ago and how it looks now.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Central Library 20 years ago

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The maps compare the layout of 20 years ago a public library with recent plan of that public library.

Overall, it is evident that 20 years ago the central library was simple and was arranged in numerous areas separate for children and adults. It was completely developed on studying purpose. In contrast, now library has been revolutionized and other facilities have been introduced in library such as: cafe, area for story telling events. Additionally self-service machines have been introduced in central library.

20 years ago, there was the room for CDs, videos and computer games at the northwest corner of the library, opposite to which at northeast there was room were children's books were arranged. Just below these rooms there were space for adult fiction books at both sides. At the bottom there was a reading room containing newspapers and magazines at south west corner, and enquiry desk for collecting tickets and to return books was located at the southeast corner of the library. At the center of the library tables and chairs were organized for individuals to sit and study comfortably.

Today the library have been revolutionized. The CD, videos and computer games room has been extended and replaced by area for storytelling events where sofas have been introduced and children's fiction books have been placed there. Likewise reading room which was at the southwest corner of the library have been replaced by computer room and between both these rooms there is now a place for all reference books. A lecture room has been built at the north west where there was a room for children's books 20 years ago. Under that there was a place for adult fiction books which has been extended and information desk along with self-service machines have been introduced at that area. At the end, a cafe has been established at the place where was a enquiry desk 20 years ago.
