Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the changes in the library floor plan, but it fails to provide a clear overview or a meaningful summary of the main trends. The description is largely a list of locations rather than a synthesis of the information. Furthermore, there are significant inaccuracies in the reporting of the data; for instance, the student describes the 'middle' area as having no tables and chairs in the current layout, but the visual data shows a different configuration. The response lacks a clear structure for comparing the 'before' and 'after' states, making it difficult for the reader to follow the evolution of the library layout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks logical progression. The paragraphs are poorly defined, and the transition between the description of the past and the present is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in the right side' and 'in the left side'. There is a lack of referencing; for example, the student uses 'we' throughout, which is inappropriate for an academic report. The overall arrangement of information is disjointed, making it hard to identify the key features of the floor plan changes.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple directional language ('right side', 'left side', 'top corners') and lacks the specific terminology required to describe a floor plan effectively. There are frequent errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'today's age' instead of 'the present day' and 'all types of inquiry check tickets'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision, and the phrasing often sounds unnatural or informal, which is not suitable for an Academic Task 1 report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect use of articles ('the a beautiful'), and persistent punctuation errors, such as the misuse of apostrophes in 'year's' and 'book's'. The sentence structures are predominantly simple or fragmented, lacking the complexity required for a higher band score. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper syntax, such as 'Look back 20 year's ago main entrance and we the four corners rooms'. These errors are frequent and demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence construction.
