Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes in the library floor plan; however, it fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the most significant trends. The description is largely a list of locations rather than a synthesis of the information. Several parts of the diagram are described in a confusing manner, such as the 'today' section, which lacks clarity regarding the spatial layout. The response does not effectively compare the two time periods, instead describing them in isolation. To improve, you should group information logically (e.g., areas that were removed, areas that were added, and areas that remained the same) and ensure a clear summary of the main changes is provided at the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written in capital letters, which is inappropriate for formal writing. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; the text relies on simple, repetitive sentence structures like '...are on the...' and '...is...'. The progression of information is mechanical, and the transition between the description of the old library and the current one is abrupt. Using linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', 'subsequently', or 'previously' would help improve the flow and logical connection between the different parts of the library.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Words like 'room', 'books', and 'left/right' are used constantly. There are several spelling errors, such as 'VEDIOS' (videos), 'MAGZINES' (magazines), 'SUMMERIZE' (summarize), and 'GENRATED' (generated). The use of 'occurs' to describe the placement of books is inaccurate in this context. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of vocabulary to describe spatial relationships and changes, such as 'relocated', 'replaced', 'expanded', or 'converted', and ensure accurate spelling of common terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that occasionally impede clarity. There is a lack of complex sentence structures; most sentences are simple and contain errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'library which consist of') and article usage (e.g., 'in first of the entrance'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and capitalization. The reliance on basic sentence patterns limits the grammatical range. To improve, focus on using a variety of sentence types, including complex sentences with subordinate clauses, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
