Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the library floor plan, identifying key changes such as the conversion of the children's area into a lecture room and the addition of a cafe. However, the description is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main changes are mentioned, the comparison between the two time periods is not fully developed, and some details are presented in a list-like fashion rather than as a cohesive summary. To improve, ensure you group related information logically and provide a more comprehensive overview that highlights the most significant transformations rather than just listing individual changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'as' to explain reasons, which does not always fit the context (e.g., 'as people will read books'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes in the library. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks flow. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring that sentences are linked more naturally would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'libaray', 'destroyrd', 'once' (instead of 'ones'), and 'diasppear'. The range of vocabulary is basic, and there is a lack of precision in describing the changes. For instance, 'many things was destroyrd' is an imprecise way to describe the removal of furniture or the reconfiguration of space. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more accurate terminology for describing layouts, such as 'reconfigured', 'relocated', or 'transformed', and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many things was destroyrd', 'reading room are completely diasppear') and pluralization (e.g., 'new once', 'Chlidren's book areaare'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors in syntax and punctuation. The misuse of articles and prepositions is also common. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, before attempting more complex structures.
