Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear overview of the changes to the central library over the 20-year period. The student successfully identifies and reports the main features, such as the removal of the central sitting area and the introduction of new facilities like the café, computer room, and lecture room. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in reporting spatial details; for instance, the reading room was previously on the bottom-left and converted to a computer room, but the student states it was on the left side after the entrance. Despite minor spatial confusion, the overall comparison is well-structured and presents a clear summary of the transformations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text is logically organised with a clear progression from an introduction to body paragraphs detailing the specific alterations. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the comparison, such as 'Prior to development,' 'Examining the diagrams in detail,' and 'On the west side.' However, paragraphing is somewhat basic, and referencing is occasionally unclear or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'Prior to development.' Additionally, some transitions feel mechanical rather than naturally integrated. Overall arrangement is coherent, but smoother linking of ideas would elevate the score further.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task describing changes, using terms like 'amenities,' 'converted,' 'shifted,' and 'expanded.' However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'development plan of central library' instead of 'floor plan,' 'library had contained,' and 'this area becomes reduce.' Spelling and morphological errors also occur, such as 'enterance' and 'Lacture.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, these inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like passive voice ('has been converted to') and subordinate clauses ('after entering the library'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('library had contained', 'this area becomes reduce'), missing articles ('of central library', 'on right side'), and awkward phrasing ('placed sofas for sitting purpose'). These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical accuracy needs strengthening.
