Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes to the public library, but it misinterprets the task type entirely, referring to a process with 'steps' and 'equipment' rather than spatial changes on a map. While the writer identifies several features from both floor plans—such as the entrance, the removal of tables and chairs, and the addition of a lecture room and café—the reporting is disorganized and misses key overall trends. The overview is weak and confused, describing spatial transformations as 'steps involved in the floor plan.' Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to limitations in how the main features and comparisons are reported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the organization and progression are heavily compromised. The introduction is convoluted and confusing. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Initially,' 'In the next stage,' and 'Afterwards,' which are completely inappropriate for a static map comparison task as they falsely imply a chronological industrial process. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, in sentences like 'After entering from the entrance we go ahead straight forward and then turn right we can see the information desk where a self-serviced machines is launced,' where directional language becomes overly conversational and difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'refurbishment', 'technological advancements', and 'enquiry desk', but there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'reburbised' for refurbished, 'megazines' for magazines, 'bacomes' for becomes, and 'launced' for launched. Furthermore, inappropriate lexical choices like 'steps involved in the floor plan' and 'online games section' instead of computer games demonstrate a limited control of functional vocabulary suitable for an academic task report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the floor plan of a public library looks previously... how it looks like now', 'tables and chairs which is not seen', 'magazines, enquiry desk... and adult fiction and non-fiction books which is located as the opposite side'), preposition misuse ('located as the opposite side'), and run-on sentences ('After entering from the entrance we go ahead straight forward and then turn right we can see...'). These frequent errors regularly impede smooth communication and lower the structural rating.
