Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, as it attempts to describe the changes to the central library but fails to report the main features accurately or make clear comparisons between the two floor plans. Instead of detailing specific spatial transformations shown in the visual data—such as the conversion of the central seating area into self-service machines, or the relocation of specific book sections—the writer relies on vague generalisations like "libraries have really been transformed exceptionally." While an overview is attempted, the limited development of key features and lack of specific data points keep the response at this level. To improve, you should systematically select and report distinct layout changes shown in the diagrams, such as identifying specific rooms that were added, removed, or repurposed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding sentence, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division of ideas feels arbitrary rather than logically sequenced. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, seen in phrases like "While on the other side" which are used awkwardly to link disparate points. Additionally, referencing across sentences is weak, making the logical flow difficult to follow. To achieve a higher band, ensure each paragraph has a distinct focus with clear logical links between sentences, using transitional markers naturally to guide the reader through the comparison of the two floor plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "transformerd" (which also contains a spelling error) and "exceptionally," but there are frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, including "limlited," "necessaary," and "childern's ficition book area." These lexical inaccuracies and misspellings occasionally cause strain for the reader. To reach a higher standard, expand your range of functional vocabulary for describing diagram changes, such as 'converted into', 'replaced by', 'relocated', and 'expanded', while paying closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled complex attempts. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The two plan illustrates", "libraries has been transformed"), article omissions ("how library has changed"), and prepositions ("over the time", "since 20 years"). These recurring errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, consistent tense usage when describing changes over time, and accurate subject-verb agreement, while carefully proofreading your work to eliminate basic mechanical slips.
