Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. It attempts to compare the two floor plans of the Central Library, noting features like the addition of a café, self-service machines, and a computer room. However, the descriptions are often inaccurate or unclear regarding the spatial changes, and the information is presented in a fragmented manner without a clear overall overview. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the required word count, containing only 124 words instead of the minimum 150. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure all key features are accurately reported, provide a well-developed overview, and meet the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates some organisation, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure. The writing consists of isolated sentences rather than a cohesive report, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the past and present layouts. Paragraphing is absent, as the text is clumped together into a single block of sentences. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, which disrupts the flow of information. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer should group related information logically into paragraphs, use clear introductory statements, and employ a wider range of appropriate cohesive links to guide the reader through the spatial changes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'storytelling event' and 'self-service machines', there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as writing 'differentiate the library appearance' instead of 'illustrate the changes to the library' and 'children room has been advance'. Spelling and word formation issues, such as 'ony' and 'thr replace', also occur. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, use precise vocabulary to describe architectural and spatial alterations, and pay closer attention to word forms and correct spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on simple and flawed sentence structures. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'The sitting style has been change such as table and chairs are replaced with sofa', 'due to technology reading books are not used', and 'there quite few changes just , thr replace the location of room'. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To improve, the writer must exercise better control over basic grammatical structures, ensure correct verb forms, and improve punctuation accuracy.
