The diagram illustrates the floor plan of a public library now and how was it used to look 20 years ago.

Overall ,the library has undergone significant changes, with several new facilities added and some of the original zones being removed or replaced.

Twenty years ago the library had tables and chairs in the center, while CD’s,videos and computer games were located in the top- left corner. Adult fiction books and non- fiction books occupied the middle section. Additionally, the library had an enquiry desk at the bottom- right of the building and the reading room in the left- bottom corner which got removed and replaced by a café and a computer room now .

Today, the layout has considerably reorganized. A lecture room has been added in the top- right of the library just where the children’s books were placed. Adults fiction books stayed in their original place but with information desk and self- service machines added to the area in the right middle section of the building. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main layout changes between the library twenty years ago and today, providing clear comparisons such as the replacement of the reading room with a café. However, some areas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the description of how the right-hand side has been reconfigured contains slight confusions in spatial referencing and naming of rooms. While the overview captures the general transformation effectively, some details are slightly under-developed or lack complete clarity, placing this response firmly in the middle tier for task fulfilment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, moving to an overview, and then detailing the past and present layouts. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the comparison, such as 'Twenty years ago' and 'Today'. Nevertheless, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward referencing and transitional phrases like 'While, the left mid section which was occupied by adult fiction books has been occupied all reference books', which disrupts the natural flow and logical progression between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, successfully capturing spatial features and library facilities such as 'floor plan', 'reorganized', and 'self-service machines'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items with some minor inaccuracy in word choice and phrasing, such as 'layout has considerably reorganized' instead of 'reorganized' as a passive structure, and awkward prepositional collocations. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, reflecting a solid middle-band lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

A mix of simple and complex sentence forms is utilised throughout the response, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences. There are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly in word order, relative clauses, and passive voice constructions, such as 'how was it used to look 20 years ago', 'got removed and replaced', and missing articles or prepositions like 'has been occupied all reference books'. However, punctuation is generally functional and these grammatical errors rarely impede communication or obscure the overall meaning.
