Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all key parts of the task by outlining the main changes between the library twenty years ago and its current layout. An adequate overview is provided in the second paragraph, capturing the overall redevelopment. However, some aspects of the response are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in mapping spatial transformations. For example, stating that 'a cafe is installed on the place of enquiry desk' overlooks other shifts in that zone. While all major areas are mentioned, extending the comparisons between the two floor plans more precisely would elevate this section to the next level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The report has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that attempt to group spatial changes logically. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' are used to sequence the information, though their mechanical application sometimes makes the transitions feel repetitive rather than fluid. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the library layout, but clearer referencing within sentences—such as avoiding ambiguous pronoun or spatial links—would improve the overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing the student to successfully describe various library facilities and spatial alterations using terms such as 'redevelopment', 'demolished', 'transformed', and 'installed'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, accompanied by occasional lexical or word-choice errors, such as 'transported' instead of 'relocated' or 'moved', and 'on the place of' rather than 'in place of'. However, these minor vocabulary slips do not impede communication, and spelling throughout the response remains accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing passive structures appropriately to describe changes to the physical layout. There are some grammatical errors, primarily concerning missing articles (e.g., 'The diagram demonstrate' instead of 'demonstrates', 'Cafe' and 'entrance remain' needing articles or pluralisation) and prepositions. For instance, 'at the place of' should be phrased as 'in place of'. These errors occur intermittently and rarely impede communication, reflecting a control typical of this level, while higher bands would require a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences.
