Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response makes an attempt to summarise the information from the diagrams, but it only addresses the task partially. The description outlines several features of the library from 20 years ago and today, such as the entrance, enquiry desk, reading room, and the newly added cafe and lecture room. However, the information is presented in a fragmented and disorganised manner without a clear overview of the overall changes. Furthermore, the selection of features is limited, and the comparisons between the past and present layouts are under-developed, resulting in a response that fails to fully capture the main trends or spatial transformations shown in the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organisation by grouping the description into past and present sections, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the floor plans. Cohesive devices are largely absent or mechanical, relying heavily on repetitive phrases like 'at the right side' and 'and opposite side' rather than sophisticated linking words or referencing. Additionally, the paragraphing is poor, with the main body text crammed into a single massive, run-on paragraph that mixes past and present features without adequate logical separation or paragraph breaks.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the quality of the description. The writer relies heavily on basic, everyday words and struggles with accurate collocation and word forms, writing expressions like 'visuod' instead of 'videos' and 'rference' instead of 'reference'. There are also frequent issues with preposition usage linked to lexical choices, such as 'at the last of the entrance'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic subject matter, noticeable lexical errors and a lack of less common items prevent the writing from achieving a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of poorly controlled simple and run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. The text suffers from frequent and severe errors, including missing verbs, incorrect tense usage (such as shifting inappropriately between past and present narration), and absent articles. For example, phrases like 'in the entrance in the front i saw' and 'when i entered the entrence the right side i see built the new cafe' demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence structure and verb forms, which causes significant difficulty for the reader.
