Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview of the library's layout from 20 years ago and comparing it with the present day. Key features such as the addition of the computer room, café, and self-service machines are identified. However, some ideas are under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the student states that the adult fiction books' place has been replaced by reference books, and mentions an adult corner on the left-hand side, which confuses the spatial relationships shown in the visual data. The overview is somewhat basic, but the main spatial changes and transformations are attempted, allowing the response to adequately cover the core requirements of the task without achieving a higher level of precision and thorough development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable progression from past to present features. Paragraphing is attempted to separate different areas of the library, but the paragraph breaks are somewhat disjointed and abrupt, leading to mechanical connections. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'its place and funtions both have enhanced', which makes it difficult to track which section is being discussed. While the logical flow is present, the cohesive devices are rudimentary, and the lack of smooth transitions prevents the text from achieving a higher level of organization and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, with clear attempts to use less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'noticeable changes', 'modren age requirements', and 'story telling activities'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors, including 'modren', 'alot', 'libray', and 'refrence'. Word choice and collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'has made alot of noticeable changes' and 'Special consideration has paid toward child section'. These lexical errors and inaccuracies do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the range and precision of the response, preventing it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms and voice, such as the passive construction 'has made alot of noticeable changes' instead of 'have been made', and 'Special consideration has paid' instead of 'has been paid'. Article usage is frequently omitted or inaccurate, as seen in 'in place of reading room' and 'on left hand side'. Punctuation and spacing errors, such as missing spaces after periods, are also present. These errors persist throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader, though the meaning of the sentences can generally still be deciphered.
