Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the removal of the central tables and chairs, the addition of a lecture room, and the conversion of the former children’s-book area into a space for children’s fiction and storytelling. However, the overview is unclear: “the architecture also changed over years, but not really” does not accurately summarise the substantial internal reorganisation. Some details are misreported or imprecise. The computer room is at the bottom left, not simply “on the left of the entrance”; the former enquiry desk area becomes a café, while the information desk and self-service machines are in the adult-fiction area. The adult non-fiction section is replaced by adult fiction, and reference books occupy the former adult-fiction area. Report these changes accurately and give a clearer overall comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic progression from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the earlier and current layouts, and phrases such as “In addition” and “In recent days” attempt to connect ideas. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear because several changes are packed into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the final sentence combines the lecture room, enquiry desk, self-service machines, information desk and book sections, making their locations difficult to follow. The overview also contradicts itself by saying the layout changed “but not really” before noting that the divisions changed a lot. Organise the body into clear comparisons by area or by major change, and use precise references such as “the former enquiry-desk area” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “floor plans,” “corner,” “centre,” “replaced” and “self-service machines.” This gives the response a minimally adequate range, but several word choices and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “the architecture” for the internal layout, “children's book corner” where a section or room is meant, and “Enquiry room” for the enquiry desk. Forms such as “remplaced,” “exicted” and “oppiste” are also inaccurate. Aim for precise labels and common map-description collocations, such as “section,” “area,” “located,” “converted into” and “was replaced by.” Check spelling carefully, especially for words taken directly from the plan.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “which did not even…” and a sentence beginning “In addition.” However, the range is limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “The diagram compares between,” “there s no this room anymore,” and “it is became,” which show problems with verb patterns and tense. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “a whole corner of a Cds” and the opening sentence’s spacing and punctuation. Practise accurate past-versus-present comparisons: for example, “The room that housed CDs and videos has been converted into a computer room.” Use shorter sentences when listing several changes, and check subject–verb forms, articles and punctuation.
