Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall change—that the library has been substantially reorganised—and report several accurate conversions: the former reading room is now a computer room, the children’s area has become a lecture room, and the enquiry-desk area is now a café. You also note that the entrance remains in the same position. However, some important changes are only partly covered: the central tables and chairs have been removed, and the former adult non-fiction area now contains adult fiction, an information desk and self-service machines. The overview is broad, while the comparison of the central and right-hand areas is not fully clear. Develop these features more precisely and avoid the unsupported reference to “1920”; the plan compares the present with 20 years ago.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by comparisons of the west and east sides, then a brief point about the entrance. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. Directional phrases such as “On the west side” and “on the opposite side” help organise the comparisons. However, some links are mechanical or confusing, particularly “While on the other hand,” and the long sentences combine several changes without clear boundaries. The phrase “the space between these two areas” also makes it difficult to identify which part of the plan is meant. Use clearer topic sentences for each side or section, and divide the comparisons into shorter, logically connected sentences with precise references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a floor plan, including “converted into,” “replaced by,” “entrance,” and “self-service machines.” These choices communicate several changes clearly. However, the range is uneven, and some wording is imprecise or unnatural, such as “massive changes,” “children’s fiction book center,” and “all reference books portion.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “diffrence,” “transfrom,” “refrence,” and “servive,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the description. Aim for standard map-description collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “area,” “section,” and “located” would help you describe the layout without awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, and the reader can generally understand the intended changes. However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “These maps diagrams illustrates” has problems with both the noun phrase and subject–verb agreement, while “On the north west side has been transfrom” lacks a clear subject. Tense control is also inconsistent in “in 1920 a children room was placed … later it is converted.” Punctuation and spacing around commas are often faulty, creating run-on sentences. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past forms for the earlier plan and present forms for the current one.
