Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation from a book-and-study layout to a more varied modern library, and your overview correctly notes that the entrance remains at the bottom centre and that social facilities have been introduced. Several important changes are also reported accurately: the former reading room becomes a computer room, adult fiction is replaced by reference books on the left, and the new right-hand area includes a lecture room, information desk and self-service machines. This covers the task well, though some details are less fully developed. In particular, the café is mentioned only in the overview and not located in the detailed comparison, and the former children’s and non-fiction areas could be compared more explicitly with their new uses. A more complete account of these changes would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by descriptions of the left, central and right areas. This gives the reader a basic route through the plan. However, progression is uneven because the description moves from the left side to the right, then returns to the central seating area before describing the new right-hand layout. Some links are also unclear: “The reading room are converted” begins a new point without a clear connection to the preceding list, while “In top right corner” does not clearly signal that the account has shifted back to the earlier plan. Organise the comparison consistently—for example, describe the old layout first and then the new layout, or compare each side in turn—and use clearer transitions and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “structural layout alterations,” “converted,” “thoroughfare,” “integrated” and “self-service machines.” These choices show an attempt to go beyond basic location words, and the main meaning is generally clear. However, several inaccurate or misspelled expressions reduce precision, such as “comprehension modernization process” and “specious thoroughfare”; the intended meanings appear to be comprehensive modernisation and spacious thoroughfare. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “CDS, VIdeos,” and “cafe” would be more appropriately written as “café.” Aim for accurate collocations and spelling rather than using ambitious wording that does not fit the intended meaning. More precise terms for the facilities and their locations would improve the description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple statements and more complex structures, including the contrast in “While the main entrance…” and the participial phrase “integrated with a new information desk.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction are frequent enough to make the writing less controlled. For example, “the library undergo” and “the entrance remaine unchange” need correctly formed past-tense verbs, while “the traditional focus … are replace” has faulty agreement and passive construction. “The reading room are converted” also has a subject–verb agreement error. Some sentences are fragments or lack a clear grammatical link, such as “In top right corner the Children’ books…” Practise accurate past-tense passive forms and build complete sentences around each comparison; this will make your range more effective.
