Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad purpose of the plans and give an overview that mentions several additions, including the lecture room, café and self-service machines. You also compare some former and current locations. However, the account is only partial: it does not explain important changes such as the removal of the central tables and chairs, the conversion of adult non-fiction to adult fiction, or the new reference-book area and computer room. Some details are unclear or inaccurate; for example, the children’s books area was replaced by a lecture room, while children’s fiction and storytelling were placed in the other former room. To improve, select the main transformations and describe each location precisely, rather than listing only a few additions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the former layout and a paragraph about the current plan. This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several details are difficult to follow because locations and changes are not consistently grouped. For instance, the past-layout paragraph moves from the north to west and east, then south, while the present-day paragraph mentions only selected changes without linking them clearly to their former uses. Connectors such as “similarly” and “Furthermore” are attempted, but some transitions feel mechanical or do not clarify the relationship. Organising both descriptions by areas or by matched before-and-after changes would make the comparison easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant plan vocabulary, including “north side,” “located,” “addition,” “self-service machine” and “enquiry desk,” so the reader can recognise the topic and several features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes parts of the description unclear. Examples include “the give map,” “change considerably,” “lectureroom,” “story telling,” and “sofe.” The phrase “a table and chair” also does not accurately express the plural furniture shown. Aim for precise map language and check spelling, word forms and collocations. Reusing accurate terms such as “was converted into,” “was relocated,” and “open area” would help you describe changes more clearly and avoid repetitive use of “located.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the basic meaning is often recoverable. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent, and errors occur across much of the response. For example, “The give map illustrate how the change that happened” has an incomplete and incorrectly formed clause; “the central library had change” uses the wrong verb form; and “A childrens books had built” has problems with both agreement and passive construction. Articles and plurals are also unreliable, as in “a adult fiction books” and “a table and chair.” To improve, practise accurate past and present passive forms for map changes, such as “was located” and “has been added,” and check subject–verb agreement and articles in each sentence.
