Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram below compares the centeral library from a 20 years back date, and the way it looks now.
Overall, the central library can be noticed to be more oragansied. Since, it is observable that the corridor have been cleared , and sitting spaces have been moved into rooms. Another major shift can be seen that room sizes have increased in the period.
Firstly, Central library has got a information desk, at the place where there used to be non-fiction books for adults. Apart from the desk, self serving devices have been also put on that place at one side, and on another books relating to fiction have been kept for adults. Moreover, on the the opposite side of corridor, all reference books have been placed today, where in past there were fictional books for grown individuals used to be.
Secondly, the first room on right after entering the library has been turned into the cafe, where in past a enquiry desk for purposes of tickets and book returns used to be. Futhermore, the room opposite to the cafe now, is dedicated for computer usage only, replacing the reading facilities of newspaper and magazines it used to offer earlier.
Lastly, two rooms in the end of library has been also transformed, where the room on the right has been converted into lecture room now from that of children's room before. On the other side, the room on the top left corner of library has became a multipurpose room, as it has dedicated space for storytelling events and on the other side of the room books based on real stories have been kept for children.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall changes: the central seating area has been cleared, several facilities have changed purpose, and the library now includes new rooms and services. The comparisons are generally grounded in the plan, including the café replacing the enquiry desk, the computer room replacing the reading room, and the lecture room replacing the children’s books room. The overview is useful, though “more organised” and the claim that room sizes have increased are not clearly demonstrated by the plan. Some important changes are omitted or only partly described, such as the former CDs/videos room becoming a children’s fiction and storytelling space, and the former adult fiction area becoming reference books. More precise coverage of these changes would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by three paragraphs describing changes in different parts of the library. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly” help the reader follow the account, and most comparisons are easy to locate. However, the organisation sometimes follows a list-like pattern, and some references are unclear. For example, “that place” and “on another books” make it difficult to identify exactly which area is being described, while “the room opposite to the cafe now” is less precise than naming its position. Grouping changes by location and using clearer references to the left, right, and top of the plan would improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing changes, including “turned into,” “converted,” “dedicated,” and “replacing.” These choices help communicate the main transformations. However, several spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision, such as “centeral,” “oragansied,” “Futhermore,” and “multipurpose” used where a more exact description would help. Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “self serving devices” for self-service machines, “books based on real stories” for children’s fiction, and “from a 20 years back date.” Aim for accurate labels from the plan and natural collocations such as “self-service machines” and “twenty years ago.” This would make your vocabulary more flexible and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “where” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. Examples include “a information desk,” “the corridor have been cleared,” “two rooms … has been,” and “has became.” The opening phrase “from a 20 years back date” is also grammatically awkward, while “Since, it is observable…” is an incomplete or poorly connected sentence. Review article use, subject–verb agreement, and past participles, and check that each sentence has a clear main clause. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
