Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main purpose of the diagrams and report several important changes, including the removal of the central tables and chairs, the addition of a café, and the conversion of the former children’s area into a lecture room. However, the overview is vague: “major changes” does not summarise the overall reorganisation clearly. Some locations are also misreported. The CDs and games room was in the north-west, not north-east, and the children’s books were in the north-east, not north-west. The current children’s fiction and storytelling room occupies the former CDs room, while the computer room replaces the reading room. Include a concise overview and describe the main changes more accurately and systematically.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure: it describes the earlier plan first and then the current one, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “After twenty years” help signal the comparison. However, the first paragraph is difficult to follow because several locations and features are packed into long, loosely connected sentences. The sequence “northen west zone childrens book department and in the middle of the lobby…” does not clearly show how the details relate. The final paragraph also lists changes without consistently pairing each new feature with its former location. Use separate, clearly organised paragraphs for an overview and the two plans, and group comparisons by area or function.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “entrance,” “central area,” “reading room,” “enquiry desk,” and “self service machines.” This gives the response a minimally adequate range for the task. However, spelling errors are frequent, as in “libary,” “Tweenty,” “southen,” and “avialabe,” and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “entrance gate,” “asil,” and “kept empty.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Learn and check the spelling of key map vocabulary, and use precise location phrases such as “in the north-west corner” and “in the central area.” Prefer natural collocations such as “was replaced by” when describing changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and the response generally communicates that the library layout changed over time. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “major changes shows” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “entrance gate was one and enter through gate centre” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Articles and plurals are often missing or inconsistent, as in “in the middle of these two section,” and several clauses are joined without complete sentence structure. Tense and passive forms also need more control when describing changes. Practise accurate patterns such as “The tables were removed,” “The room was converted into a café,” and “The entrance was at the centre.”
