Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant features in both plans, including the central tables and chairs in the earlier layout and the computer room, lecture room, café, and self-service machines in the current one. However, the response mainly lists what a visitor might see and does not give a clear overview of the main changes. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the earlier plan has a room for CDs, videos and computer games, not a sequence encountered on entering, and the current top-left room is for children’s fiction and storytelling events, not “story telling books.” The information desk and the removal of the central tables are also important changes that are omitted. A concise overview comparing the two layouts, followed by accurate details about each side, would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic chronological structure, moving from the library twenty years ago to the present, and it attempts to organise details by the left and right sides. This gives the reader some sense of the two plans. However, the progression within each section is difficult to follow because repeated phrases such as “firstly we see” and “and then we see” create a mechanical list rather than clear comparisons. The opening sentence does not introduce the report effectively, and there are no distinct paragraphs to separate the overview from the supporting details. Grouping the major changes together and using clearer location-based links, such as “on the left” and “in contrast,” would improve the organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “adult fiction books,” “reading room,” “enquiry desk,” and “self service machines,” so the reader can recognise many of the library features. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “we see” and “then.” Some wording is imprecise: “story telling books” does not accurately describe the storytelling-events area, while “the table and chairs are present” is a basic way to report a feature. Spelling and written forms such as “libray,” “childrens,” and “firslty” also reduce accuracy. Practise using precise map vocabulary and varied verbs for changes and locations, while checking spelling and compound forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Most of the response relies on short, simple clauses, and there is little variety in sentence structure. Several sentences contain frequent grammatical problems that sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “The information by selecting and reporting is summarized and make comparison” has faulty verb forms and an unclear construction. In “In central libray twenty years ago firstly we entered see,” the verb pattern is incomplete, and articles are often missing, as in “in the libray” and “Between the libray.” Punctuation is also weak: long sequences run together without spaces after full stops or clear sentence boundaries. Build accurate sentences with a consistent present or past tense, and practise articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
