Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall changes: the library has been modernised, seating has been removed, and several facilities and book areas have changed. Most comparisons are grounded in the plans, including the former reading room becoming a computer room and the former children’s-books room becoming a lecture room. However, one key comparison is reversed: the adult-fiction area on the left became the reference-books area, while the adult non-fiction area on the right became adult fiction—not the other way around as stated. The enquiry desk is also not simply replaced by the café; the café occupies the former reading-room-side area, while the enquiry desk is no longer shown. The overview is relevant but could more precisely summarise the major reorganisation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by comparisons of the former and current layouts. Time markers such as “In past” and “at the present” help readers follow the changes, and the final paragraph adds further room conversions. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “In past” and “At the present” constructions, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, the sentence beginning “At the present, the section of adult fiction books…” misidentifies the change, making the comparison difficult to follow. Grouping changes by location or by type of facility, and using clearer references such as “the former reading room,” would make the organisation more cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of map vocabulary, including “floor plan,” “layout,” “section,” “replaced,” and “newly introduced,” which allows you to describe the main changes. Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, however: “cafe being added most noticeable” and “increased in book sections” do not express the intended ideas clearly, while “compartments” is not a natural term for library areas. Spelling errors such as “privious,” “relaced,” and “childern’s” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise phrases such as “the most notable addition,” “book sections expanded or were reorganised,” and “areas/rooms.” More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple statements and longer comparisons, using structures such as “which was removed” and “which was replaced with…”. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include “the library become more modernized,” “the most noticeable being the increased,” and “An information desk and a self-service machines were newly introduced.” The sentence “At the present, the section of adult fiction books was replaced…” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between the subject and the change being described. Practise forming accurate past-versus-present comparisons, including consistent tense and plural agreement, and check that each sentence has a complete, clearly structured main clause.
