Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a limited attempt to compare the library at two points in time, mentioning the former newspaper and video/computer areas and the current children’s area and automated machines. However, it does not accurately report the main changes shown in the plan. For example, the current plan has a lecture room, café, computer room, information desk and self-service machines, while the response focuses largely on general claims about technological progress and old computers that are not shown in the diagram. The statement that children have a “sitting place” is also unclear: the plan shows a storytelling area with sofas. A clear overview of the major layout changes, followed by accurate comparisons of specific rooms and facilities, is needed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
There is some basic grouping into paragraphs, and the opening and closing sentences attempt to frame a comparison. However, the information does not progress in a clear, map-based order. The response moves from library facilities to broad comments about innovation, then to computer specifications, without connecting these points to the plan. Repeated time markers such as “In 1980” and “now a days” provide limited cohesion, while the standalone “conclusion” does not create a meaningful transition. Organise the response around an overview and then compare corresponding areas or list the main additions and removals. Use linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “In addition” to show relationships between accurate details.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “newspaper,” “computer section,” “chairs and table,” and “automatic process machine.” It also attempts more specific terms such as “octacore processing,” but this is not relevant to the information shown and does not help describe the library plan. Repeated, broad expressions such as “up to date,” “old fashioned,” and “available” limit precision, and spelling errors—including “libaray,” “vedeos,” and “inovation”—make the writing less clear. Build a more accurate range of vocabulary for describing facilities and changes, such as rooms being added, removed, or converted, and use the labels in the diagram where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is uneven and errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “library works manually and manage by people” has problems with verb form and sentence structure, while “automatic process machine is install” does not use the correct passive construction. Articles, plurals and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “children sitting place” and “chairs and table.” Most sentences follow a basic pattern, and the longer sentence beginning “In 1980, only old feature…” becomes difficult to interpret. Practise accurate present and past forms, especially when describing changes, and use clear sentence patterns such as “The reading room was replaced by a computer room.”
