Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram shows the floor plan of a public library and compare its the structure between now and its older version of 20 years ago. It can be seen that the structure is chnaged drastically in each corener except the entrance point. Some of the sections have been completely removed and others gets renovated.
To see the detailed change we start from the right hand side of the entrance point in both cases. Previously on the right hand side of the entrance there is an enquiry desk, whereas now its converted to a cafe. The enquiry desk in moved to adjacent to cafe which used to be section of adult non-fiction book section 20 years ago, now named as Information desk. Further up, there is a lecture room which was previously known to be a children's room. Adult non-fiction books section is now completely removed and they have only fiction books available in the library.
Moving to the left hand side of the entrance, the reading room is converted into a computer room. The room which was assigned for electronic related things such as cds, videos and computer games is now modifies to a collective room comprising of sofas, children fiction books, and used for storytelling events. The table and chairs used to be in the centre around 20 years ago is now completely removed in the current plan. Adult fiction book section is now modified to a reference books section.
In conculsion, the structure has changed a lot which even shows how library gets evolved with the evolution of technology around us. The change help us to learn things more effeciently and fastly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You give a clear account of the main transformation and compare several corresponding areas: the former enquiry desk becomes a café, the reading room becomes a computer room, and the central tables and chairs are removed. You also identify the unchanged entrance and describe the new storytelling and lecture rooms. These relevant details support a clear overall picture. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or over-generalised: the information desk is not described as the enquiry desk moved beside the café, and the library does not have “only fiction books”; reference books and other facilities remain. The final claim about technology helping people learn faster is not shown by the plans. Keep the summary focused on visible changes and describe locations precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview, two paragraphs organised by the entrance’s right and left sides, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “Previously,” “Moving to the left hand side,” and “In conclusion” help signal progression, and the reader can generally follow the comparisons. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement, while the clear grouping shows some of the flexibility associated with a stronger performance. However, the right/left route leads to a few unclear references, particularly “The enquiry desk in moved to adjacent to cafe,” and the final paragraph shifts from describing the plan to unsupported commentary. Use more precise location-based links and reserve the conclusion for a concise overview of the changes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “floor plan,” “entrance,” “converted,” “section,” and “removed,” so the main changes are usually understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “electronic related things” and “collective room,” but these are not natural or precise in this context. Several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors—“corener,” “chnaged,” “modifies,” “conculsion,” and “fastly”—reduce accuracy, while repeated use of “section” and “changed” limits range. Aim for standard map-description collocations such as “was replaced by,” “was relocated,” and “is now situated.” More accurate spelling and more precise labels would make your vocabulary more effective and easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and clauses beginning “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors include “compare its the structure,” “the enquiry desk in moved,” “which used to be section,” and “The change help us,” involving sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and agreement. Tense also shifts awkwardly in “Previously … there is an enquiry desk,” where a past form is needed to describe the earlier plan. These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to interpret, although the overall message remains recoverable. Practise forming accurate past-versus-present comparisons, checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and proofreading each sentence for a complete, correctly linked structure.
