Student answer (Band 5.5)
These maps show the floor plan of a public library in the past and how it is now.
Overall, there are enormous numbers of changes that have taken place. In the past, their was a enquiry desk on the right side of the entrance and now, there is a cafe inplace of it. 20 years ago, there was a reading room on the left of the entrance and now, it is replaced by computer room.
In the past, the centre of the library was occupied by the number of tables and chairs and now, it is empty. In contemporary society, adult fiction books were reorganized from left to the right side of library and all types of reference books are available at the left-centre of library. Now, children's books room is converted into lecture room. In past, the room which contained the material related to entertainment is now considered as children's fiction books and is used for storry telling events. Now, the self-service machines have been installed at the right centre of the library, making it much convenient for the visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main transformation clearly: the central tables and chairs have been removed, the former reading room is now a computer room, and the children’s-book room has become a lecture room. You also report the relocation of adult fiction and the new reference-book area, so the response covers several important comparisons. However, some details are unclear or imprecise: the café is not simply “in place of” the enquiry desk, as it occupies a separate enclosed room in the bottom-right area, while the former enquiry-desk area now contains the café only in a broad positional sense. The opening overview says there are many changes but does not summarise the overall reorganisation. A clearer overview and more precise descriptions of the new facilities would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a generally understandable past-to-present comparison, and phrases such as “In the past” and “now” help signal the time contrast. The ideas are mostly relevant and can be followed, but they are presented in one continuous block rather than in clearly organised paragraphs. Several transitions feel repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “now,” and the sequence moves between the entrance, centre, and different rooms without a consistent route through the plan. Some references are also vague, such as “it” in “now, it is replaced by computer room.” Group the changes by area or pair each former feature with its replacement, and use clearer referencing and a wider range of linking expressions to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing changes, including “reorganized,” “converted,” “installed,” and “occupied,” which helps communicate the main developments. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “enormous numbers of changes” is unnatural, “inplace of it” is unclear, and “making it much convenient” does not express the intended meaning naturally. There are also spelling errors in “storry” and “cafe,” and “material related to entertainment” is a vague description of the former CDs, videos, and computer games area. Aim for precise map vocabulary such as “was relocated,” “was replaced by,” and “is now used for,” while checking spelling and natural word combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons between the two plans and clauses such as “making it much convenient for the visitors.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “their was a enquiry desk” has errors in the verb and article, while “the room … is now considered” uses an unsuitable passive construction and tense for describing the plan. Articles and prepositions are also inconsistent in phrases such as “left-centre of library” and “from left to the right side.” Punctuation spacing after full stops and commas needs attention. Review past-tense descriptions, subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries to make the comparisons more accurate.
