Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram illustrates the plan of the floor of a public libarary 20 years ago and the current look of it now.
Generally, the central library today looks a lot more modern and have a better use of space than how it was 20 years ago.
In details, the entrance to the two plans remain the same. There are still 4 sperated rooms but in the library 20 years ago, the middle of the building had some table and chairs. This has been completely removed in the building of today. The Adult fiction books were more exposed in the old building plan but in the current plan it is just in one corner beside the information desk.
In conclusion, the central library plan of today, dedicated a whole room for computers as it conforms to the current technological times we are in. It has also added a cafe room which the old plan did not have.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall change as a more modern use of space and accurately note that the entrance remains in the same place, the central tables and chairs have been removed, and a computer room and café have been added. You also compare the adult-fiction area with the information desk. However, several important changes are omitted or only briefly covered: for example, the former children’s-books room becomes a storytelling and children’s-fiction room, the lecture room is new, and the reference books are relocated. The statement that there are still “4 sperated rooms” is unclear and does not adequately describe the changing layout. A fuller account of the major room and book-section changes would make the summary more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction, a general overview, details about the layout, and a concluding comment. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and phrases such as “In details” and “In conclusion” signal the stages of the response. The progression is not always fully effective, however. The final paragraph introduces the computer room and café as a conclusion rather than integrating them into the main comparison, while several other major changes are left out. Some references, such as “This” in “This has been completely removed,” are understandable but could be more explicit. Grouping the changes by area or by old and new functions would create a more consistently developed comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a floor plan, including “entrance,” “information desk,” “exposed,” and “dedicated a whole room.” These choices help communicate the main changes, and the meaning is generally clear. However, the range and precision are uneven, with some inaccurate or informal expressions: “the current look of it now” is repetitive, “better use of space” is broad, and “the technological times we are in” sounds conversational rather than report-like. There are also spelling errors in “libarary” and “sperated.” Aim for precise terms such as “layout,” “relocated,” and “converted into,” and use formal, concise phrasing to describe the changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “The Adult fiction books were more exposed … but in the current plan…”. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. In the overview, “the central library today looks … and have” has a subject–verb agreement error; use “has.” “The entrance to the two plans remain the same” also has agreement and phrasing problems; “The entrance remains in the same position in both plans” is clearer. In “the central library plan of today, dedicated a whole room,” the comma and verb form are incorrect. Continue practising agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex comparisons.
