Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response gives a clear overview of the library’s main transformation and identifies several important changes, including the unchanged entrance, the new café and lecture room, and the removal of the reading room and central tables. Most locations and replacements are accurately reported, and the comparison is sustained across both plans. This is a strong account of the task, with relevant details selected rather than a label-by-label inventory. To make the description more fully precise, clarify that the former children’s-books room became a lecture room, while the former adult non-fiction area became adult fiction with an information desk and self-service machines. The opening room’s former media collection is also described somewhat loosely as “fun activities.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised effectively into an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs comparing the western and eastern areas. This gives the reader a clear route through the plan, and phrases such as “In the north-west area” and “Turning to eastern area” help signal the shift in focus. The main progression is logical, and the comparisons are generally easy to follow. Some linking is less controlled: “Furthermore.” is incorrectly punctuated as a standalone fragment, and “Moreover” and “and” make the final paragraph’s sequence slightly crowded. Use a consistent set of location-based transitions and connect related changes in complete sentences to make cohesion smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for describing changes and locations, including “underwent significant changes,” “replaced,” “abolished,” and “north-east.” These choices allow the reader to understand the main developments, and the writer attempts some less common wording. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for a floor-plan report: “fun activities” is vague for the media room, “substituted with” is awkward in this context, and “a new cafe is developed” is not a natural collocation. “Modernized” is also a broad judgement rather than a precise description of the changes. Prefer neutral, exact terms such as “converted into,” “made way for,” and “was added.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including relative clauses and contrast structures such as “which is now replaced…” and “while it is now…”. Meaning remains clear throughout, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include the missing article in “over 20 year period,” the incorrect form in “there used to a room,” and agreement errors in “the position of entrance remain unchanged” and “the tables and chairs… has been removed.” There are also problems with articles and plurals in “a few self-service machines” and “some sofas.” Aim to check verb agreement and use of articles, and revise each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause; this would improve accuracy while preserving the range of structures.
