Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the comparison between the library before and after its redevelopment, and you include several accurate details about the former layout, such as the entrance, enquiry desk, reading room, tables, and adult book areas. However, the response only partially reports the main changes. The overview is vague, and the final paragraph is incomplete: it mentions the entrance and reading magazines but does not explain the major new or relocated facilities, including the computer room, café, lecture room, storytelling area, reference books, or self-service machines. There are also factual errors: the CDs and games room was at the top left, not the top right, and the children's books were at the top right, not the left. Select the most significant changes and describe their positions accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to the old plan and then the current plan. Sequencing words such as “Overall,” “firstly,” and “after the development” help signal these sections. However, progression is weakened by the very long sentence describing the old layout, where several locations are joined together without clear boundaries. The final paragraph also stops after an unfinished explanation (“it divided the sectors…”), so the comparison does not develop logically to a conclusion. Use separate sentences for distinct areas and organise the current layout in a clear order, such as left side, central area, and right side. More precise referencing would also help readers follow which features have moved or changed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “entrance,” “enquiry desk,” “reading room,” “adult fiction,” and “non fiction.” This gives the response a minimally adequate range for the task. However, spelling errors are frequent, including “centeral,” “sapce,” “interance,” “childern's,” and “mazgines,” and these can make the description harder to understand. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “different niches,” “new furniture technology,” and “cafeteria is held in different places.” Choose standard map-description terms and use them consistently: for example, “areas” or “sections” rather than “niches,” and “was converted into” or “was added” to describe changes. Proofreading spelling would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response uses some comparison structures, such as “as compared with the library nowadays.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns. For example, “This diagram illustrate's” has incorrect subject–verb agreement and apostrophe use, while “the old library have” should use a singular verb. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in phrases such as “there is a adult fiction book,” and the long sentence beginning “Just infront of interance” contains several clauses without effective punctuation. The final sentence is incomplete, which leaves the meaning unclear. Practise accurate past and present forms, articles, and sentence boundaries, using shorter sentences to report each location.
