Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the conversion of the former reading room into a computer room, the addition of a café and lecture room, and changes to the north-west and north-east areas. These details are generally grounded in the plans, and your overview recognises that the library has been modernised. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: the enquiry desk is not simply changed into the café; the café occupies the former enquiry-desk area, while the desk is replaced by an information desk elsewhere. The statement that “they add more books” is also vague, and the new children’s fiction/storytelling area and the removal of the central tables and chairs could be reported more clearly. More precise coverage of these features would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. You also attempt to group changes by location and use linking expressions such as “However,” “Whereas,” and “By contrast.” This gives the reader some sense of comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because several changes are joined in long, loosely connected sentences, and some transitions do not clearly express the relationship between the ideas. For example, “Whereas, adult fiction is located in same place” is not clearly connected to the preceding change. Use shorter sentences, organise details by area or by type of change, and make each linking phrase match the comparison being made.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “north-east,” “south-west,” “lecture room,” and “self-service machines,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “depicts” and “by contrast.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts of the description difficult to understand. Examples include “transfer in modern world,” “completly demolish,” and “set the name according to new generation.” Some labels are also described imprecisely, such as “students’ books” for children’s books. Aim to use the plan’s exact labels and practise common change phrases such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” and “was relocated.” Check spelling carefully, especially for key nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrasts introduced by “However” and “Whereas.” Nevertheless, many sentences contain errors in tense, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, which sometimes make the relationships between changes unclear. For instance, “in last 20 years there was student’s books” needs a clearer past-tense construction, while “students books is completely demolish” has problems with agreement and verb form. Several clauses are also joined without appropriate punctuation, as in “new lecture room.Whereas.” Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past and present forms to compare the two plans. More accurate basic structures will make your comparisons easier to follow.
