Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You identify the main transformation from the earlier layout to the current one and cover changes on both sides of the library. The comparisons are generally grounded in the plan: the former reading room becomes a computer room, the children’s-books room becomes a lecture room, and the enquiry desk area becomes a café. You also note the removal of the central tables and chairs and the new storytelling area. The overview that the library gained new facilities and became more commercial gives the reader a broad picture. Some details are less fully reported, however: the current information desk and self-service machines are mentioned only briefly, and the former adult non-fiction area is not clearly traced. More precise coverage of these features would make the account more complete and better supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by changes on the left and then the right side of the plan. This gives the reader a workable route through the information, and connectors such as “Furthermore,” “In addition” and “when we compare” help signal relationships. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, with several changes packed into long sentences and limited separation between individual features. References such as “these things” and “the area” are not always precise, while “in the last” is an awkward transition. Use clearer paragraphing and organise each side into shorter, logically grouped comparisons; this would make the relationships easier to follow and reduce the need for repeated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “transformed,” “replaced,” “storytelling events” and “self-service machines,” which helps describe changes in the plan. There is also an attempt to vary the language rather than repeat “changed.” However, spelling errors are frequent, including “weset,” “childerns,” “libaray,” “refrence” and “compuetr,” and these make the writing less fluent to read. Several word combinations are also unnatural or imprecise: “sofa setting,” “were adjusted in the front of the entrance” and “became more commercial.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing standard map-description collocations, such as “located,” “replaced by” and “the library became more service-oriented.” Greater precision would strengthen the range already attempted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with subordinate clauses, for example, “when we compare the right side…” This shows some variety, but complex sentences are often difficult to control, and errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. Examples include “how it appear now,” “the area underwent the considerable development,” and “the adult fiction books … was constructed.” The opening also joins several clauses with full stops or commas inappropriately, as in “development.several new facilities…” These problems sometimes make the relationships between changes unclear. Practise accurate past and present forms when comparing the two plans, and use shorter sentences with clear subjects and verbs before extending them with subordinate clauses.
