The map below compares a public library floor blueprint between 20 years ago and the current central library.
Overall, it is clear that the library has gone significant transformation. The major changes that has occur was that the library has become more organize and comfortable while the entrance remains in the exact same position as before.
20 years ago, the library had entertainment like video games and children's book in top left and top right corner of the floor which has now changed into children specific section and lecture room.
In the bottom corners of the room, there were reading room for newspaper and magazines and enquiry desk for information regarding tickets and book returns. These rooms are now replaced with computer room and cafe. The main hall which had adult fiction and non-fiction along with table and chars is now changed into all refrence books section, information desk, adult fiction books section and self service machines.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main purpose of the plans and give a useful overview: the entrance stays in the same place, while the library’s internal layout changes substantially. You also report several important conversions, including the former reading room and enquiry desk becoming a computer room and café, and the central area gaining reference books, an information desk and self-service machines. This covers the task well, with the main comparisons generally grounded in the plan. However, some details are imprecise or underdeveloped: the top-left area was not simply “entertainment,” and the former children’s-books room became a lecture room, while children’s fiction and storytelling moved to the top-left. A clearer account of these changes would make the summary more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction, an overview, and then descriptions of the upper and lower/central areas. This makes the comparison reasonably easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “20 years ago,” and “In the bottom corners” help signal the organisation. However, the final paragraph combines several separate changes in a long sentence, so the relationships between the old and new sections are not always easy to track. The phrase “These rooms” also requires the reader to infer which two rooms are being discussed. Separate the central-area changes from the corner-room conversions, and use clearer references such as “the former reading room” to improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “floor blueprint,” “entrance,” “enquiry desk,” “self service machines,” and “replaced with.” These choices communicate the main changes, and you attempt more specific terms rather than relying only on basic words. Some word choices and spelling errors reduce precision, however: “entertainment” is too broad for the CDs, videos and computer games area, while “chars” and “refrence” are misspelled. “More organize” is also an inaccurate word form. Aim for precise labels from the plan and check spelling carefully; this would make the description more natural and reliable without requiring a much wider vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a contrast in “while the entrance remains in the exact same position” and relative clauses such as “which has now changed.” The main meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “has gone significant transformation” needs an article and a different verb pattern, and “the major changes that has occur was” has problems with agreement and verb form. There are also errors in “the library had entertainment … which has now changed” and in plural forms such as “there were reading room.” Review subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, articles and plural nouns. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the otherwise clear comparisons.
