Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both plans and identify the main transformation: the central tables and chairs disappear, while facilities such as a café, lecture room, computer room and storytelling area are introduced. Your overview also recognises that some uses are retained or redeveloped, and many of the locations you describe match the diagram. This meets the task well, with some features reported in useful detail. However, a few comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: the children’s books area becomes a lecture room, not simply a reconstruction, and the former adult non-fiction area is replaced by adult fiction, an information desk and self-service machines. The claim that adult fiction was on both sides of the tables is also not supported. More precise descriptions of these changes would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a description of the earlier plan and then the current layout. This makes the broad progression easy to follow, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Turning to present Library” help signal the shift between plans. However, some linking is mechanical or confusing. For example, “In contrast” does not clearly express the relationship between the former non-fiction area and its new uses, while “beside that” leaves the location reference uncertain. The long final sentence also combines several changes without clear separation. Use shorter, location-based comparisons and refer consistently to areas such as the north-west or south-east to make the progression more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for describing changes, including “remained,” “replaced,” “redeveloped,” “retained” and “redesigned.” These attempts help communicate the main transformations, and the response includes appropriate facility names from the plan. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “floor chart,” “added new,” “free space,” and “easy accessibility to public.” There are also spelling errors, including “situtated,” “additon” and “childeren,” which reduce accuracy. Some terms are repeated, particularly “features” and “changed.” Aim for precise map language such as “floor plan,” “was converted into,” and “was replaced by,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses linked with “whereas,” “while” and “however.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “the central library undergone” needs a correctly formed past participle, and “there was five feature” has a number-agreement error. In “the tables and chairs was changed,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the passive construction is not formed accurately. Several sentences also lack clear grammatical boundaries, especially the final sentence. Practise accurate past-tense and passive forms for describing changes, and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
