Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies that the library has been altered and mentions several relevant features, including the former reading room, enquiry desk, book areas and the new café and computer room. However, the account is only minimally developed and contains important inaccuracies: the plans do not have the same number of rooms, and the central tables and chairs have been removed rather than simply being part of a corridor divided into two areas. The current layout is also left unfinished (“with computer In cor”), so key changes such as the lecture room, storytelling area, information desk and self-service machines are not reported. The overview is too general to convey the main transformations. Compare the two plans systematically and describe the most significant changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and descriptions of the earlier and current plans. This gives the reader some sense of the intended sequence, and phrases such as “In 20 years ago plan” signal a shift in time. However, progression is weakened by unclear or incomplete sentences, especially the final line, which ends at “In cor”. Connections between details are also limited: “same changes were made” does not clearly explain which features moved or were replaced, and “there was a corridor where chairs were places” is difficult to follow. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and each plan, and link comparisons explicitly with phrases such as “whereas” and “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “floor plans,” “reading room,” “adult fiction book area” and “computer games.” This shows a basic ability to name locations and functions. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or spellings make the description less clear, such as “sharp right side,” “traits,” “consturuction plan” and “rom es.” Some expressions are also imprecise: “same changes were made” does not specify the actual alterations, while “covered area” is not clearly connected to a visible feature. Build a more accurate set of map-description terms, including “relocated,” “replaced by,” “converted into,” and “open-plan area,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “Number of rooms are same but their labels had been changed.” However, grammatical control is weak and errors occur frequently, sometimes making relationships between features difficult to understand. Examples include “The both diagrams illustrate,” “Each have own traits,” and “there was a coridor where chairs were places”; these show problems with articles, agreement and verb forms. Tense use is also inconsistent when describing the past and present, and the final sentence is incomplete. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation need attention as well. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then use controlled comparison structures such as “The former reading room was replaced by a computer room.”
