Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and mentions several features of the earlier plan, including the tables, enquiry desk, reading room and book areas. However, it does not adequately summarise the requested changes: almost no features of the current library are described, and there is no clear overview of the main transformations. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear, such as saying adult non-fiction was on both sides and placing the children’s books and CD room in conflicting positions. The response is also below the required 150 words, which leaves important comparisons and supporting details undeveloped. To improve, describe the present-day layout and directly compare it with the former arrangement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to move from an introductory statement to an overview and then to details about the old plan. However, the response is presented as one continuous block, and the progression is difficult to follow, particularly in the final sentence, where several locations are joined together. Linking expressions such as “overall,” “however” and “while” are attempted, but their use does not consistently clarify the relationships between ideas. Organise the answer into clear paragraphs—for example, an introduction and overview followed by comparisons of the left and right sides—and use location-based sequencing to guide the reader through each plan.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for describing a library layout, including “floor plan,” “facilities,” “entrance,” “enquiry desk” and “round tables.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the subject. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “feasable” is not appropriate here, “buit” and “reeding” are misspelled, and “adult non-fictions” is an inaccurate form for the book category. Phrases such as “provide few facilities” and “after changing and additions” are also awkward. Build a more precise set of terms for changes and locations, such as “was replaced by,” “was relocated to” and “in the upper-left section.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “However” and a clause linked with “while.” Nevertheless, control is uneven, and errors in sentence structure and basic grammar occur throughout. For example, “The diagram clearly illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “before 20 years ago” uses an incorrect time construction. The overview sentence beginning “overall library used to provide” lacks an article and has an unclear structure, and the final sentence contains several clauses without clear punctuation. Use shorter, complete sentences first, checking articles, agreement and past-tense forms, then add comparisons with accurately controlled clauses.
