Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main change from a traditional layout to one with new facilities, and you compare several important areas: the former reading room becomes a computer room, the enquiry area becomes a café, and the old children’s-books room becomes a lecture room. You also note the removal of the central tables and chairs. These are relevant features and give the response a clear overall focus. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the sofas are in the new children’s fiction/storytelling room, not near the entrance, and the former CDs-and-games room becomes that children’s room. The new lecture room replaces the former children’s-books room. A more precise overview and clearer account of the reference-book and fiction areas would make the comparison more complete and developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison, and words such as “before,” “now,” and “however” signal time or contrast. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several changes are joined together without clear relationships. For example, the sentence beginning “before reading room now it's computer room” moves directly into the sofas and enquiry desk, making the locations harder to track. The contrast introduced by “however” is also not clearly connected to the preceding paragraph. Group changes by location or by old-to-new use, and use clearer sentence boundaries and reference phrases to make the organisation more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “floor plan,” “self service machine,” “adult fiction,” “reference book,” and “lecture room,” so the reader can identify many of the facilities being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description less precise, such as “many places,” “old floor has lot of space,” and “they create now it's modern style.” Some labels are also not reproduced accurately, including “children’s fiction books” and “enquiry desk.” Aim to use the plan’s exact facility names and a wider set of location and change terms, such as “relocated,” “replaced by,” “converted into,” and “in the north-west corner.” Careful spelling and natural collocations would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to describe changes using both simple statements and time contrasts, but sentence structures are often incomplete or inaccurately formed. For instance, “The chart shows the floor plan if a central library” uses an incorrect clause pattern, while “how change it's look like now” has problems with verb form and sentence construction. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent in phrases such as “a adult fiction books area,” and several sentences lack clear punctuation or boundaries. These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. Practise accurate simple past and present forms for comparing the two plans, then combine them with controlled structures such as “The former reading room was converted into a computer room.” Check articles, plurals, and sentence punctuation during revision.
