Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the changes made in the floor plan of a public library over the period of 20 years.BY looking at the diagrams it obvious that library went through many major changes as follow.

To begin with, Entrance point is same in both diagrams while other things got changed like 20 years before at the middle of library there were table and chairs which has been removed now. Moving ahead, On the left side from entrance it used to be reading room which is now replaced by computer room. Similarly, Currently a storytelling events room with children's fiction books and with sofa sitting is present at the far left from the main entrance while 20 years before here used to be a CD, videos ,computer games room. Although, one thing which is noticeable is about the size which has been extended in today's condition. Further, For both rooms of the left side gates were opened in an open area where used to be section of adult fiction books which is now changed with all reference books and the opening for computer room also moved to main entrance corridor.

On the far right side used to be room for children's books which is now replaced by lecture room and currently on the right side from entrance there is a cafe but before this space was occupied by the inquiry desk which is now moved to the middle of right sides room along with the section of adult fiction books. One major update is the introduction of self service machines which are present on the sharp right next to cafe entrance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify several important changes, including the unchanged entrance, removal of the central tables and chairs, and the conversion of the former reading room into a computer room. You also compare the two plans across both sides of the library. However, the response does not give a clear, separate overview of the main transformations, and some details are incomplete or imprecise. For example, the current right-hand area includes adult fiction, an information desk and self-service machines, but the information desk is not clearly described; the machines are not simply “next to” the café entrance. The former enquiry desk is also described as having moved, although the plan shows a new information desk in the adult-fiction area. A concise overview and more exact reporting of these features would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally understandable sequence: it begins with the entrance and central area, then describes the left side and finally the right. Comparisons such as “20 years before” and “now” help readers follow the changes, and the ideas are grouped broadly by location. However, the long paragraphs contain several changes of focus, and linking phrases such as “Moving ahead,” “Similarly,” “Although,” and “Further” sometimes feel mechanical or do not clearly express the relationship between ideas. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “here” and “this space,” because the location is not always restated. Organising the report into a brief overview followed by clearly separated left- and right-side descriptions would improve progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a plan, including “replaced,” “section,” “extended,” and “introduction.” These choices allow you to report several changes, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations. “Entrance point” is less natural than “entrance,” “gates” does not accurately describe the openings shown, and “sharp right” is not an appropriate way to locate the machines. “Inquiry desk” also differs from the plan’s label, “enquiry desk.” Aim for precise map vocabulary such as “located,” “converted into,” “open-plan area,” and “self-service machines,” and check spelling and word forms to make descriptions more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “while” and “which,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. Some grammatical errors remain, however. The opening has a missing space after the full stop and an incomplete construction in “it obvious”; it should read “it is obvious.” There are also problems with articles and agreement in “Entrance point is same” and “a storytelling events room,” as well as tense and sentence structure in “where used to be section.” Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, and several long sentences need clearer punctuation to separate clauses. Practise accurate article use, complete verb phrases, and controlled sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
