Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation clearly: the central tables and chairs have been removed, book areas have changed, and new facilities such as a computer room, self-service machines and a café have appeared. You also make relevant comparisons between the former and current uses of several rooms, including the children’s area and the left-hand section. This gives the response a sound overview and covers the main changes. Some details, however, are unclear or inaccurate: the café replaces the former reading room, not the enquiry desk, and the former enquiry desk area is now part of the adult-fiction area. The description of the right-hand section as divided into “two three section” is also difficult to interpret. More precise coverage of these changes would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. Spatial references such as “on left of center” and “at its right side” help the reader follow the plan. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven. The third paragraph moves between the enquiry desk, children’s room, reading room and media area without a clear route through the plan, while “followed by CD, reading room” makes the relationship between features unclear. Linking expressions such as “however,” “although” and “remaining” are used, but some do not accurately signal the relationship between ideas. Organise the details consistently by side or by room, and use clearer references to distinguish the old and new layouts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “floor plan,” “location,” “self-service machines,” “lecture room” and “adult non-fiction books,” so the reader can recognise many of the facilities being compared. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “striking feature” and “remaining part.” However, spelling errors such as “seperate,” “intigrated,” “insted” and “vidios” are frequent enough to distract, and several word choices or collocations are unclear: “fully integrated computer room,” “change shape by adding one door” and “information deck.” Use standard facility names from the plan and check spelling carefully. More precise phrases such as “was converted into” and “is now located” would also help express changes naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “however” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Nevertheless, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening omits necessary words (“the floor plan of public library” and “how look”), and there are errors in verb forms and agreement, as in “there was tables and chairs” and “which had being removed.” Some sentences combine several changes without clear grammatical links, particularly the long sentence beginning “Looking to remaining part,” making relationships difficult to follow. Articles and plurals are also often missing or incorrect. Practise building shorter, complete comparison sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses such as “whereas” or “which was converted into.”
