Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main subject and note several important changes, including the removal of the central tables and chairs and the addition of a computer room and café. However, coverage is partial and some locations or comparisons are inaccurate: the children’s books area was in the top-right, not the “left corner,” and the former reading room and enquiry desk were in the bottom-left and bottom-right respectively. The overview that the library is “more improved” is vague, and the response does not clearly summarise the overall reorganisation. It is also below the required 150 words, by 9 words; the 12 words copied from the prompt are excluded. To improve, give a precise overview and report the major changes by location.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and paragraphs describing changes, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph combines several top-corner features, while the final paragraph moves between the central area and bottom corners without a clear organising pattern. Some linking is also inaccurate or awkward, particularly “As compared to today update features” and “in both side.” Organise the description systematically—for example, compare the left side, right side and central area—and use clear references such as “the former reading room” to make relationships easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant plan vocabulary, including “floor plan,” “entrance,” “reference books,” “information desk” and “self-service machines,” so the reader can recognise many of the facilities being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unclear, such as “more improved in side of new features,” “update features” and “facility is removed.” Spelling and word formation errors, including “Wheares,” “bootom” and “faclity,” also reduce precision. Aim for accurate terms for changes and locations, such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into” and “in the upper-left corner.” This would make the comparisons more concise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “As compared to today…” and “In central area…,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in tense, agreement, articles and sentence construction appear throughout: “how it look today,” “books in past is updated,” and “in both side … is replaced” make relationships difficult to interpret. The opening also needs an article (“illustrates the floor plan”), while the overview’s contrast beginning “Wheares” is not formed as a complete, clear sentence. Practise accurate past-versus-present comparisons, for example, “The former reading room has been replaced by a computer room,” and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
