Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes some relevant observations about the library, including the former tables and chairs, the reading room, children’s books, and features such as the café and computer room today. However, it only minimally fulfils the task of summarising and comparing the two plans. There is no clear overview of the main changes, and several details are inaccurate or confused: the earlier plan has the enquiry desk on the right, not the left, and the reading room on the left, not the right. The response also describes membership procedures and a general preference for a paperless library, which are not shown in the plans. Focus on the most significant changes and report their locations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to move from the earlier library to its present-day features, and some location language, such as “left side” and “center point,” helps signal where items are. However, the information is not arranged into a clear comparison: the response shifts from the old layout to general comments and then to current facilities without a consistent structure. Connections between ideas are often unclear, and long strings of details make the description difficult to follow. Organise the response into a brief overview and separate paragraphs for the earlier and current plans, using clear contrasts such as “whereas” or “in contrast.” This would give the reader a more coherent progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response attempts vocabulary relevant to the plan, including “reading room,” “self study room,” “information desk,” and “lecture room.” However, basic vocabulary is often repeated, and numerous spelling errors or inaccurate word choices strain understanding, for example “knowedge,” “prppotry counter,” “scommen rooms,” and “paperless library.” Some expressions are also unsuitable or unclear for describing a floor plan, such as “East pont room” and “out knowedge.” Use the labels shown in the diagram wherever possible, and choose precise terms for locations and changes. Careful spelling and more accurate collocations would make the description substantially easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including “In this library when entrance there many table and chairs…” and “which books are verious kinds…,” but these structures are frequently incomplete or difficult to interpret. Errors in articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction appear throughout; for example, “when we entrance” lacks a suitable verb pattern, while “there many table and chairs” needs a verb and plural agreement. Punctuation also does not reliably separate ideas, producing run-on sentences. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then combine related information with accurate clauses. For example: “The former central area contained tables and chairs, whereas these have been removed in the current plan.”
