Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies several features associated with the present-day library, including a café, lecture room, reference books, self-service machines and a computer room. However, it does not adequately summarise or compare the two floor plans: it omits major changes such as the removal of the central tables and chairs, the relocation of book sections, and the conversion of the former reading room into a computer room. Some claims, such as non-fiction books being uncommon and online ticket buying reducing offline sales, are not supported by the diagram. The response is also 20 words below the required minimum. To improve, give a clear overview of the main spatial changes and report only features shown in the plans.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic sequence of points, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “I conclude” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the response reads mainly as a list of separate comments rather than a structured comparison of the old and current plans. The opening claim about CDs and video games being old-fashioned is not clearly tied to a specific change, and the conclusion introduces a broad opinion about change instead of summarising the library’s main developments. Grouping the information into an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing key areas would make the progression clearer. Use links such as “whereas” and “in contrast” to show precise relationships between the two plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “reference books,” “lecture room,” “self-service machines” and “computer room,” so the reader can recognise several library features. There is also an attempt at less common phrasing, such as “physical taste of education,” but this expression is unclear and does not convey a precise comparison. Several choices are inaccurate or awkward, including “primarily tool,” “offline sales” and “seperates sofas”; spelling errors such as “Evereything,” “seperates” and “eduaction” also reduce clarity. Build a more accurate range for describing locations and changes, for example “was replaced by,” “was relocated to,” and “the former reading room.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes mostly short statements and attempts a few longer structures, such as “There is a cafe for refreshment” and “I conclude that modern library have modern facilities.” However, control is inconsistent: articles are missing in “modern library,” agreement is incorrect in “library have,” and the sentence beginning “First of all the main thing is that” lacks clear punctuation. The run-on sequence of ideas also makes sentence boundaries difficult to follow. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships unclear, although many individual points remain understandable. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while,” “whereas” and “which,” checking articles, subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
