Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the broad topic and attempts an overview, noting that the library has changed and that the entrance remains in the same central position. However, it does not report the main changes shown in the plans: for example, the former tables and chairs are removed, the reading room becomes a computer room, and new facilities include a café, lecture room and self-service machines. The final sentence is unfinished, so the comparison about the central tables is not completed. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving too little information to summarise the plan adequately. To improve, complete the comparison and describe several key changes in the different areas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then moving to an overall statement. The use of “Overall” signals a shift to the overview, and the entrance is identified as a point of continuity. However, the response ends abruptly with “central tabels and chairs,” so the ideas do not form a complete progression or a finished summary. There is no clear grouping of changes by area, and the relationship between the overview and the details remains undeveloped. Use a complete overview followed by one or two paragraphs comparing the former and current facilities, with clear links such as “whereas” and “in contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “layout,” “transformation,” “entrance,” and “tables and chairs.” These choices show awareness of the task’s subject, but the range is very limited because the response is so short, and several word forms or spellings are inaccurate: “entrace” and “tabels” should be “entrance” and “tables.” “Layout being completely organised” is also an unclear and unnatural description of the changes. More precise terms such as “facility,” “section,” “was converted into,” and “was replaced by” would help report the specific changes accurately. Aim to use vocabulary tied to the plan rather than general claims about organisation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a complex opening sentence, but grammatical control is inconsistent. In “The plans compares,” the plural subject requires “compare,” and “or how it look” should be phrased as “and how it looks” or “and how it has changed.” The next sentence has agreement and article problems in “library undergone” and “there is several changes”; these need forms such as “the library has undergone” and “there are several changes.” The final sentence is incomplete, which prevents the comparison from being expressed clearly. Most of the writing relies on short, basic structures, with little evidence of controlled variety. Practise complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement, tense, and articles before adding more complex comparisons.
