IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary world, a segment of people believe that owing a house is very crucial for the individuals rather than renting one. I thing this might be case because it is very wise financial decision if looking at the long term and this is largely a positive development.
One of the key reasons why this be the case is a wiser financial decision. To detail it out renting a house means every month expense and it will increased every yearly which can be saved if home is owned. Additionally, the house value will constantly increase every year which can be a best place to live independently after retirement without depending on others. Moreover, we can manage our house by our own choice instead of asking the owner. For instance, people can design, paint and manage their own house, as per their needs and choice which is not possible at a rented house. And sometimes there are rules and regulations which should be followed by the individuals if they are living in the rented house otherwise the owner will kicked them out and they also make a agreement and signed by them before living at the rented house. Hence, this are the cause why might this be the case.
Furthermore, the key reason why this is the positive development is a dream house. To elaborate this, inevitably, everyone has the dream to owned house and additionally design every single thing by their choice which they have dreamed before and it can be fulfilled after buying one. another reason is earning. To put it in other words, individuals can give a part of house on rent from which they can receive monthly rent and from the rented money they can manage the house maintenance wisely.
Conclusively, i thing this is the case because people have to follow rules and regulation in the rented house and also they cannot live independently. However, owing a house has several positive development such as design and manage by their own and also can give for rent from which they earn money and used it for managing house maintenance respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain why home ownership is valued and state that you see it as positive. The financial argument—avoiding rent and potentially benefiting from rising property value—is relevant, as are independence and the ability to alter one’s home. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that owning is a “wiser financial decision” would be stronger if you acknowledged costs such as repairs or explained how ownership builds long-term security. The positive evaluation is also supported mainly by personal choice and rental income, while the conclusion introduces dependence on others without developing that point. Develop the main reasons more clearly and keep the evaluation consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and evaluation, and a conclusion. The reader can generally follow the progression from financial benefits to independence and personal choice. You also use linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore.” At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and some sentences contain several ideas without a clear relationship. The long discussion of rules in rented homes, for instance, combines restrictions, eviction, and agreements in one sequence. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together. Use clearer topic sentences, divide complex sequences into shorter units, and make references such as “this” and “they” more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial decision,” “independently,” “rules and regulations,” “maintenance,” and “monthly rent.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common phrasing. However, several word-choice and collocation problems make the writing sound unnatural, such as “owing a house,” “every yearly,” “dream to owned house,” and “give a part of house on rent.” There are also spelling and form slips, including “thing” for “think” and “another” at the start of a sentence. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check word forms: for example, use “owning a home,” “each year,” and “dream of owning a home.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “if.” This allows you to explain reasons and give examples, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “it will increased,” “everyone has the dream to owned house,” and “this are the cause.” The sentence beginning “To detail it out renting a house…” also needs clearer punctuation and structure. Work on matching subjects and verbs, using the correct infinitive or participle form, and checking articles and plurals. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
