IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some countries owning a house rather than renting one is very essential for people. I partly think that it is a positive situation because renting can be expensive in some countries this is why some people don't want to move to a different country.
On the one hand, in some european countries house rents are expensive particularly in capital cities. Most people can migrate to a different country because of certain situations such as work, education and more but, they often suffer from living expences. For example, in Luxemburg, most people don't want to stay in a rented house due to a large amount of rent. As a result, some people try to come from nearby countries by train or local transports and some other people stay in their relatives house.
On the other hand, some people say that it is a negative idea to own a house because it can also take high amount of money. People who have a permanent job or if they will exist in the particular area for the rest of their lives then it is the best dicision to build a house or own a residance. It will offer them a freedom and they can go anywhere from their house for a short trip. For example, in France, many people are constructing a house for their children. Thus, children can live a happier life and they don't have to face living expences.
From my perspective, I believe that those people who want to spend their rest of the life in a particular place than it is a very good idea to build their own house whereas other people who have possibilities to migrate into a different country than it is best to stay in a renting house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that high rents and the costs of living can make ownership attractive, and you give a qualified view that owning is positive for people who plan to stay in one place but less suitable for those likely to move. The examples of Luxembourg and France help make the discussion relevant. However, the reasons why home ownership is important are not always explained clearly: the point about people travelling from nearby countries to avoid rent, for instance, needs a clearer link to ownership. Your discussion of the negative side—especially the financial burden of buying—also receives less development than your positive case. Explain these contrasts more fully and keep the position consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a concluding opinion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the comparison, and examples are placed within the relevant paragraphs. Some connections between ideas are less clear, however. In the first body paragraph, the move from migration to expensive rent and then to commuting or staying with relatives is not fully explained. The conclusion also repeats the contrast without drawing together the reasons discussed. Use linking phrases to show cause and effect more precisely, and make sure each example directly supports the paragraph’s main point. This would make progression smoother and reduce the somewhat mechanical feel of the transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss housing and migration, including “rented house,” “permanent job,” “capital cities” and “living expenses.” There are also attempts at less common wording, such as “migrate” and “particular area.” However, several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “very essential,” “high amount of money,” “a freedom” and “living expences.” Spelling errors such as “Luxemburg,” “dicision” and “residance” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they limit precision. Build a reliable set of housing-related collocations and check spelling, word forms and countability before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including conditional clauses such as “if they will exist in the particular area” and a contrast structure with “whereas” in the conclusion. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “because renting can be expensive in some countries this is why” joins two clauses without suitable punctuation or a clear connector. The construction “People who have a permanent job or if they will exist…” is also not grammatically parallel, and “those people … than it is” creates an unclear comparison. Work on clause boundaries, conditional forms and sentence patterns that compare alternatives. More accurate complex sentences would strengthen the range you already attempt.
